Harvard Business Publishing joins IU eTexts initiative
Indiana University on Feb. 8 announced an agreement with Harvard Business Publishing to deliver eTexts for students on all IU campuses. Harvard Business Publishing is the leading provider of teaching materials for business management education.
"As a business school professor, I have long used HBP cases because they are a cornerstone of business education," said Brad Wheeler, IU vice president for information technology and CIO. "The HBP flat-rate pricing brings the next level of innovation to IU's eText program that saves students money and gives them digital access on almost any device."
IU now has cost-saving agreements with seven publishers and Courseload to provide eTexts and eReader software. As a result, 127 class sections encompassing 5,300 IU students are participating in IU's eTexts initiative this spring.
"The IU eText program has had a solid start across the Kelley School, and we're especially delighted that Harvard Business Publishing will be among the great publishers that are participating, as it gives our students new ways to access key materials," said Dan C. Smith, dean of the Kelley School of Business. "We have long been one of the nation's largest users of Harvard's learning materials, and we are delighted to provide them to our students in this new more efficient format. Perhaps one day when the IU model is adopted by all universities and publishers -- with all players winning -- it could be the subject of a Harvard case."
Through HBP's eText offerings, IU students will gain access to the insights, experiences and expertise of Harvard Business School faculty and authors from Harvard Business Review.
"I have just started using HBP's eTexts in my strategy class," said professor Todd Saxton, IU Kelley School of Business. "I love the ability to annotate and help the students 'connect the dots' across articles, cases and other materials. My students save some money and gain convenience by having the materials integrated into our learning management system -- getting expanded collaboration options and access to other related content."
The agreement with HBP will provide students with eTexts at a deeply discounted flat rate. IU students will also experience all the benefits that the eTexts initiative provides: The ability to access digital or printed hard copies, take advantage of social learning features and continue using all of their eTexts while they are enrolled at IU.
