Not long ago, Indiana University East professor Jean Harper reached out to Dan Wakefield, one of her favorite authors, and now he's coming to Richmond on Thursday and Friday. Harper, an assistant professor of English, sent Wakefield a copy of her book, "Rose City: A Memoir of Work." That initial contact led Wakefield to offer his services as a speaker and workshop leader.

An Indianapolis native, Wakefield is a novelist, journalist and screenwriter whose best-selling novels "Going All the Way" and "Starting Over" were produced as feature films and whose memoir, "New York in the Fifties," is the basis for a documentary.
