Brood XIII periodical cicadas are all the buzz in the Chicago area, but their distinctive droning will soon be gone; over the next few weeks, newly hatched cicadas will burrow underground and stay there for 17 years. The largest and densest brood of periodical cicadas, Brood X, emerged in southern Indiana in 2004.
