State Fair 2009

Indiana University and Clarian Health are offering free health screenings and fun interactive exhibits inside the Clarian Healthy Lifestyles Pavilion at the Indiana State Fair, Aug. 7-23, 2009.

Fairgoers who visit participating booths with "The Passport to Health" can qualify to win prizes and will learn about healthy eating and lifestyles along their journey.

Terry Stigdon (right), an E.R. nurse at Riley Hospital for Children, navigates a cardboard vehicle to help educate young state fair attendees, like Richard Minor (left), about the dangers of crossing busy streets.

Clarian Health's Sandy Piercy (left) takes Jeff Russell's blood pressure. IU and Clarian Health are teaming up to provide free health screenings and information on healthy living at the state fair.

Loretta Posey, of Clarian Health, completes a free cholesterol screening for a patient at the state fair.

Fresh vegetables are the ingredients for healthy snacks, like the fire-roasted salsa the Clarian Health's Executive Chef Kelly Kimpton prepared at the fair.

Marion Larkins (left), of Velocity Sports Performance, talks with IU School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation's Emily Haller, a senior dietetics major. The HPER exhibit addresses portion control and how to grow your own healthy food.

The Indiana State Fair midway offers thrills for the young and old alike. Clarian's free health screenings are close to the midway and the tempting traditional fair food.
